Birnel leads BOK Financial’s Asset Based Lending (ABL) Group, which provides lending to companies across a variety of industries. The group’s commitments range from $5 million to over $50 million and provide financing for growth, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, dividend recaps, refinancing, turnaround/restructuring, and leveraged employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). He joined BOK Financial in 2019.

Birnel has a bachelor’s degree in finance/political science from Utah Valley University and an MBA from Regis University. He also studied finance at the Washington State University Carson College of Business.

Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his kids and being in the mountains, particularly mountain biking.
